The Ninth House
Spiritually considered the ninth house of the celestial map is the House of Science, Art, Religion and Philosophy, and is symbolised by Leo, the heart, with its emotions, love, longings and sympathies. Having evolved the twins, and inspiring the divine breath of wisdom; glowing with Deific love, the Ego aspires to know; and all of the sympathies of the soul are aroused. Dauntless and fearless, defying all opposition and consequences, the Ego is ready to sacrifice this angelic state and explore the boundless universe in pursuit of knowledge, and goes forth on its, long voyage upon the ocean of infinite, fathomless love and wisdom.
Upon the reversed zodiac, the external human plane, the ninth house is now governed by Sagittarius, where, within knowledge acquired, self sits in judgment upon the works of the hands and mind, whether or not they have been well done; the sacrifice of the lower nature properly made, control of the triune being established, the transmutations corrected and accurate, assimilation perfect and free from waste, harmony gained by loving obedience to the higher law of being, and thus becomes ruler of his kingdom; the long journey almost accomplished, so far as Earth is concerned, perceiving and understanding that all science, philosophies and religions have their origin from one primal source. Having perfected the depths in reverent obedience to the Divine law of creation, and evolved attributes of the dual constitution, the forces of his being become crystallised. He has reached the culmination of his earthy pilgrimage and steps forth to perfect human reflection of the higher self.
This house is known as the ‘Deus’, which is Latin for ‘God’, it’s a cadent, masculine, diurnal house, yet its aspect by trine to the ascendant reduces the negative imposition by the cadency of the house. It’s affiliated with light green, the buttocks, thighs and hips. As a house of voyages we can see here our long distance travel and journeys that take us to unknowns places; foreign countries, overseas and as such you may also find foreigners, pilgrims and explorers. Dreams, visions, inspired thoughts, divination, astrology, mysticism, philosophy, beliefs and all that create the desire to unite with something larger than ourselves. As such, we can find places where we seek guidance and wisdom from others, where we go in search of expanding our knowledge and wisdom. Books, scholarships and all forms of higher education and religion; universities and churches.
Here you may find priests and nuns or any form of religious clergy, scholars, professors, practitioners of the law, lawyers, the law society, counsellors and advisors. On a larger scale the ninth is the churches, monasteries, religions and all institutions dealing with religions, rituals and spiritual matters. The ninth can describe unsavoury cults and dogmatic religions if afflicted by malefics. It’s the foreign affairs and foreign offices, international law, world conferences; the United Nations. Shipping, Airlines, sea traffic, and long journeys whether connected with passengers or commerce. The publishing industry, international communications, colleges and all places of specialty studies; scientific and philosophical institutions.
In matters of conflict, it shows the propaganda of the opponent and any written reports or communications that affect the defendant. You’ll see here the brothers and sisters of the spouse (3rd from 7th) and grandchildren of the querent (5th from 5th). Sagittarius and Jupiter cosignificate the ninth house while the Sun rejoices here. Lily says; “if Jupiter placed in it naturally signifies a devout man in his religion or modestly given; it has often been observed when the south node, mars or Saturn hath been unfortunately places herein, the querent hath been little better than an atheist or desperate sectarist.”
